Green Lake

Green Lake Seattle mapGreen Lake Seattle

Seattle's most popular park? - Discovery Park is huge, Kerry Park has the views, Magnuson has a world-class dog park. In all, Seattle has over 300 public "green spaces". Parks, play fields, gardens, playgrounds, skate parks, golf courses and public green belts. But perhaps none are as heavily and frequently visited as Green Lake Park. Although it's one of Seattle's larger parks, most of Green Lake Park is covered by the lake. And although boaters, paddle boarders, and the occasional swimmer do take to the water, Green Lake is most popular with bipeds (and their furry quadruped companions). Even in the winter, thousands of people visit Green Lake park every day. And on the first blue-skied, sunny day of the Spring. . . Forget about it. All of humanity comes to Green Lake. Residents of the Green Lake neighborhood must share their street parking and tolerate the snarled traffic, even when they're not sharing the jogging trail and grassy green play fields of Green Lake Park.

Chowder and fitness: the perfect balance - Not surprisingly, Green Lake's shops and restaurants are situated on Green Lake Way, the street that circumnavigates the park. Among Green Lake's oldest businesses are Dukes Chowder House and Spud Fish and Chips. There is also a Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream shop, Amanti's Pizza, And Chocalati Handmade Chocolates. With all these tasty, calorie-laden food options, it's a good thing there's also Gregg's Cycles and Super Jock 'n Jill (a store dedicated to running).

A mix of architecture, a max of price - The Green Lake neighborhood, originally inhabited in the early 1900's, is primary populated with Craftsmen homes and brick Tudors. But like highly sought-after neighborhood, when the money comes in, so do the developers. Green Lake is now an eclectic mix of all types of architectural styles. Modern and post-modern homes and town homes are evermore frequently seen in the area. In the last year, the average home price in Green Lake was $600,000. And houses in Green Lake typically sell for slightly more than the asking price. Houses in Green Lake sell in an average of less than 3 weeks, with most of them selling in less than a week.
